Underground Medium

Medium settles into the natural center of the Underground family. Its weight feels assured without becoming assertive, giving Johnston’s humanist shapes a steady, even color across the page. Strokes gain enough presence to hold up in signage and interface text, yet the rhythm remains open and legible at reading sizes. Compared to the lighter cuts, it carries more authority; beside the bolder weights, it reads calmer and more conversational. Use it as the backbone of a hierarchy, pairing it with Light for contrast or Bold for emphasis. It’s the quiet anchor that lets the rest of the family move with confidence.
