OSX Font confusion

For now, try this page for an explantion: OSX font Foibles

Or get the official explanation of fonts in OSX right from Apple.

Or better yet, download this PDF (3Meg) from apple explaining font management in detail

Downloaded Mac file will not unstuff?

  • Many of our downloadable files were created with OS9 and therefore may have trouble auto- unstuffing in OSX. Also some files were created in OSX and may have trouble auto-unstuffing in OS9. The solution in both cases is to be sure you have the latest version of Stuffit expander. If there is still any problem, try to unstuff the file from within the stuffit expander application (Open Stuffit Expander->Select Expand->Locate downloaded file)

Fonts not appearing in Adobe Products

  • Q: Some P22 fonts do not show up in newer Adobe Software (Photoshop 5.5, InDesign, Illustrator 9, etc) but they do show up in everything else?

A: There was a change in the way that Adobe products render type. This change made a group of our fonts 'invisible' to the newer Adobe products. We have fixed the problem that made our fonts incompatible. Please contact us at support@p22.com to confirm that this is the problem you are experiencing and we will send replacement files.

Too many fonts

  • Q: I cant install any more fonts! Why?

A: For Pre-OSX systems there is a limit to the number of fonts you can install directly into the system (usually 128). If you use a large number of fonts and would like greater control, programs such as Font Reserve, Suitcase and ATM deluxe can be quite useful

OS9

  • There are many possible font problems with OS9, most of which can be fixed simply by downloading and installing the new Adobe type manager.

The iMac

  • If you have purchased our font and cannot install it due to no floppy drive in iMacs. We can e-mail the software with a registration card and a copy of their sales receipt (if multiple fonts)-no charge

  • The superdrive does not read the disk!---Superdrive can read Superdirve disks (100 megs) or High Density Disks. Unfortunately Superdrives do not read double density disks (most of our old disks) .

    Two possible solutions:

---We can send you a CD ($11.00 media and shipping charge)

---or e-mail a replacement (no charge)

same proof of purchase as above applies

What is AFM and how does it affect me?

  • An .afm file is an ADOBE FONT METRICS file. It is included with the Postscript fonts because older programs made use of this. It is not used much anymore but is still included for those with older programs. Installing it will not really have any affect on System 7 or later.
