Notice to user. Thank you for continuing this far. As you might
have guessed by now, Today is April 1, 2006. The traditional
day of practical jokes. However, even though this joke is somewhat
impractical, it is not be considered false advertising. The LTC spacing
sorts font is in fact everything it claims to be. You may continue beyond
this page and download the font. You will be not be charged $19.95 because
the P22 reality-check office feels we might be setting ourselves up for
a slew of refunds and tech support calls. 2.
Purpose. The LTC Spacing Sorts font was conceived as a way of
making a point about how digital type is taken for granted as far as its
ease of use and its value. Until the last 15 years, type was a consumable
good that required use of finite resources. Even rub-down transfer lettering
had a limited number of any given characters. Professional typesetting
required costs that would boggle the mind of young designers today. Even
student designers had to buy type materials that cost the same as digital
fonts today, but were only usable one. A digital font is essentially limitless
and the price paid for a useable font is recouped many, many times over
through the designers billable work. The LTC spacing font highlights one
aspect of handset letterpress type that had a real cost, but is a given
now- that there is no charge for "space" in composing on the
computer. In effect the same results could be achieved by adjusting the
tracking of the normal space character or adding kerning before a word.
We are serious about connecting with the past and the great historical
designs, but that doesn't mean we can have some fun now, does it? 3.
