Roma is a new font family designed by Thomas Lincoln. The release of the font is the result of a collaboration between Canada Type and P22, with P22 providing the preliminary groundwork that led to the family's eventual design.
In over 40 years as an award-winning type designer, much of Tom's work has expressed his fascination for the Roman majuscules inscribed at the base of the Trajan Column in Rome. With the Roma Family, he goes well beyond creating a proper Trajan Sans and brings us a definitive, contemporary, mature sans serif expression of those majuscules in 4 weights with OpenType features and additional options for creating shading and multi-color settings.
The Roma family includes 10 font styles and consists of 2 subsets- the Roma Volume and Roma Effects Volume. The 4 fonts contained in the Roma Volume are full-featured OpenType fonts. Features include: Small Caps, ligatures, oldstyle figures, fractions, ordinals, stylistic alternates and extended language support that spans the majority of Latin-based languages, including Central European. A total of 558 glyphs per font.
The Roma Effects Volume includes 4 fonts that contain precise renderings of the Roma capitals that can function individually or be layered atop each other for two- or three-color treatments. Roma Outline is contained in the Effects Volume, but is also available as a separate downloadable font in addition to Roma Inscribed and Shaded, which are meant to be used when multi-color overlays are not needed.
